As long as the sun shines, either direct or indirect, the Lat-Lon GPS unit will be replenished with more power to use. Battery systems have a limited life. In order to get 3 to 5 years of service they need to spend most of their time in sleep mode and typically send out 1-2 messages a day. The patented STU sends out dozens of important messages a day. The STU will run as long as it can convert sunshine to power which is predicted greater than 10 years. The STU also has power to run sensors 24/7 so it is always on the job monitoring your assets.
